In 2015 we launched Social Icons Widget by WPZOOM with the intent to provide WordPress users with a simple and easy-to-use widget for adding social links to their websites. With over 100k installs at the moment and continuous positive feedback from the users, it kept us motivated to constantly improve and keep updating this free plugin.
Now, to keep the pace with all the changes WordPress is going through, we are excited to announce that the latest update — Social Icons Widget 4.0 — includes a social icons block for Gutenberg aka Block Editor.
Simply updating the plugin to the latest version will make the block available in the blocks list from the editor:
The Social Icons Block can be used in posts and pages and includes some awesome new features, such as:
- 7 new icons styles
- change icons margin & padding
- change icons roundness
Adding icons in the new block is so easy, just like you have already used to do it in the widget:
The block will automatically recognize links to popular and known websites, so you don’t have to pick manually the icon and its color.
You can also re-order the icons as you want or pick a custom icon by editing the details of each icon individually.
If you don’t plan on using at all either the widget or the block, you can disable them in the new options located under the Settings > Social Icons Widget Settings

❤ Thanks alot for updating this. Even though I’m not done with version 3 yet ㋡. Right now I’m trying to put it directly into a paragraph block.
