As the Gutenberg release is approaching with every new day, we’re continuing to make good progress around the new editor and make sure that all of our themes are already compatible with it.
Today we’re happy to announce the release of our first Gutenberg plugin – Recipe Card Blocks.
As you might have already guessed, Recipe Card Blocks by WPZOOM is a plugin for food bloggers. Even though the plugin was inspired by our popular theme for food bloggers — Foodica, the good news is that you can use it with any existing theme.
At the moment the plugin includes 3 new blocks for Gutenberg:
- Directions
- Ingredients
- Recipe Details
If you have used our Foodica theme before, then you will notice that the design of the Ingredients and Directions blocks is the same as in the recipe cards created using shortcodes in the Classic Editor.
The difference between the shortcodes and the new blocks is that now you can preview the blocks directly in the editor. Besides that, both Ingredients and Directions blocks include a Print button which allows you to print separately the content of a specific block, not the entire article.

It seems this plugin doesn’t add all te relevant microdata?

You’re right, this plugin doesn’t support structured data yet, but this is on our roadmap.

Hi, lovely stop-gap, but lots of problems. No way to add an image. No way to print the whole recipe! (imagine having to print ingredients and directions separately all the time). The “details” section doesn’t format properly, or save properly — and when the block is deleted and reinserted, all the old info is still there. I ended up just not using it at all. Seems like there’s a long way to go in that road map there.. :)

Hi!
Is there a way of adding pictures to wpzoom directions block? I used to be able to add a picture related to each step beneath the text. It makes no sense to add all the step-by-step pictures at the end!

Hi, Rosalia
We’re already working on an update for the Recipe Blocks and it will include adding images to directions, as well as many other new features. Stay tuned!
