How to Create a Portfolio Section

WPZOOM Portfolio adds a Portfolio post type and a flexible Portfolio block to WordPress, so you can showcase projects in a filterable grid on any page. This guide takes you from zero to a published portfolio section.

The plugin works with the block editor (Gutenberg). If the Classic Editor plugin is active, deactivate it (or allow the block editor for portfolio posts) — the plugin will show a notice otherwise.

Step 1: add a few portfolio posts

Go to Portfolio → Add New and create a handful of projects. Two things matter for the grid:

• a Featured Image for each post — it’s what the grid displays;
• a Category (the Categories under the Portfolio menu) — categories power the filter bar. Posts without one are placed in Uncategorized.

Step 2: insert the Portfolio block

Edit the page where the portfolio should appear, click the + inserter and add the Portfolio block (category WPZOOM – Blocks).

A grid of your latest portfolio posts appears immediately, with a live preview of every option. Tip: switch the block’s alignment to Full width in the toolbar for the classic edge-to-edge portfolio look.

Step 3: pick a layout and tweak the options

Everything lives in the block sidebar:

• Layout — Columns, Overlay (title over the image), Masonry, or Eccentric (PRO) — plus columns amount, gap and item border radius.

• Filtering — what to show: portfolio posts, blog posts or Media Library images; categories; order; number of items; the category filter bar.
• Fields — thumbnail size, title, author/date/excerpt/read-more (Columns layout).
• Other Settings — lightbox, clickable items and what a click opens.

What visitors get

• A responsive grid with your chosen layout, e.g. Overlay above or Masonry below.

• A category filter bar (when enabled and you have 2+ categories) that filters projects instantly, without reloading the page.
• A lightbox: clicking a project opens its image full-screen with arrows to browse the rest (or the single project page — your choice under Other Settings → On Item Click).
