An Album Gallery attaches a set of extra images to a portfolio item. In the grid, the item gets a View Album action that opens all its images as a navigable lightbox slideshow — perfect for showing a whole shoot or project gallery without leaving the page.
Adding an album to a portfolio item
Edit the portfolio post. In the sidebar (Post tab), find the Album Gallery panel, right under the Featured Image.
Click Set album images, select images in the Media Library, confirm.
The panel shows thumbnails; Edit album changes the selection, and each thumbnail has a remove button.
Update the post.
The Album Gallery panel is part of the block editor — it’s not available with the Classic Editor.
Showing albums in the Portfolio block
In the Portfolio block’s Other Settings, keep Open Album in Lightbox enabled (it’s on by default). Items that have album images display an album icon and a View Album label on hover; clicking opens the album in the lightbox, with arrows and captions (image title, or alt text as fallback).
Items without an album behave as usual — their featured image (or video) opens in the shared lightbox.
Tips
Order matters: the slideshow follows the selection order — arrange images in the media modal.
Captions come from each image’s Title/Alt in the Media Library; hide them by turning off Show Lightbox Caption.
Combine with a Video Lightbox: the video plays from the play button, the album from View Album.
