Getting to Know the WPZOOM Forms Builder

This article refers to WPZOOM Forms

Since version 2.0, WPZOOM Forms comes with its own full-screen Form Builder. You no longer build forms inside the WordPress block editor: you pick a template (or start blank), drag fields onto a live preview, and configure notifications, styling and integrations from one screen. This guide gives you a tour of the builder so you can find everything quickly.

Upgrading from WPZOOM Forms 1.x? Your existing forms keep working exactly as before. The first time you open an old form in the builder and click Save, it is converted to the new format. See Migrating forms from 1.x for details.

1. Creating a new form

  1. In your WordPress dashboard go to WPZOOM Forms → Add New Form.
  2. The Choose a template screen opens. Click a template in the left list to preview it on the right.
  3. Click Use This Template to open it in the builder — or choose Blank Form to start from scratch, or Generate with AI (PRO) to describe the form you need and let AI build it (see How to Generate a Form with AI).

Use the search box to filter templates by name, e.g. “RSVP”:

Searching templates

WPZOOM Forms (free) ships 24 templates; templates marked PRO and the AI generator require WPZOOM Forms PRO, which includes 35 templates.

2. The builder at a glance

The Form Builder

The builder has four areas:

Area What it does
Top bar Back arrow · Submissions count (click to open this form’s entries) · form title (click the pencil to rename) · Embed · Notifications · Settings · Save
Left sidebar The field palette, grouped into Standard Fields, Choice Fields, Advanced and Layout. Click or drag a field to add it.
Canvas (centre) A live preview of your form. Click a field to select it; drag the handle on its left to reorder.
Right panel Shows Field Settings for the selected field, or Form Settings / Notifications & Confirmation when opened from the top bar.

When nothing is selected, the right panel shows a shortcut to Edit Form Settings and a rotating Did you know? tip:

The first time you open the builder a short Welcome Guide walks you through these areas. You can reopen it any time from Settings → Show Welcome Guide (the ? icon).

3. Adding, selecting and arranging fields

Field palette
  • Add a field — click it in the left palette (it is appended to the end of the form) or drag it to the exact position you want on the canvas.
  • Select a field — click it on the canvas. Its settings open in the right panel.
  • Reorder — drag the ⋮⋮ handle on the left of a field.
  • Duplicate / Delete — hover a field and use the icons in its top-right corner (delete asks for confirmation). You can also press Delete or Backspace with a field selected.

Fields marked PRO in the palette (Number, Time, Upload, Hidden, GDPR) are available in WPZOOM Forms PRO. The free plugin shows an upgrade notice when you click them.

4. Field Settings

Click any field to edit it. Every field has a General tab and an Advanced tab.

Field settings

General (common to most fields): Label · Placeholder · Default Value · Required · Help text · Width (Full, 1/2, 1/3, 2/3 — fields with partial widths sit side by side). Advanced: CSS Class · Additional CSS · Field ID · Conditional Logic (PRO).

Each field type adds its own options — the Email field has Use as reply-to address, the Text field Use as email subject, choice fields have an options editor, and so on. See the Form Fields Reference for every option of every field.

5. Form Settings

Click Settings in the top bar (or Edit Form Settings in the right panel).

7. Saving and embedding your form

Click Save in the top bar (or press Ctrl/⌘ + S). The button reads Saved when everything is stored; the builder warns you if you try to leave with unsaved changes.

To put the form on your site click Embed:

Embed modal

Copy the shortcode — it looks like [wpzf_form id="4"] — and paste it into any post, page or widget, or insert the Contact Form by WPZOOM block in the block editor (search for “WPZOOM Forms”). Both methods are explained in Adding Forms to Pages, Posts, and Widgets.

8. Keyboard shortcuts and tips
