Tribune 4.3 turns the theme into four distinct designs you can switch between in one click, and adds a Dark Mode your visitors control from the header. This guide covers what each style looks like, how to switch, and how dark mode behaves.
Table of Contents
| Style | Look | Dark Mode |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | The Tribune newspaper design with the navy menu bar — the style every site had before 4.3, lightly refreshed | — |
| Editorial | A flat magazine design: wider canvas, hairline rules, letterspaced labels, Newsreader headlines with Inter Tight | ✅ |
| Modern | A soft, card-based design: rounded corners, elevated cards, a blue accent, Plus Jakarta Sans throughout | ✅ |
| Broadsheet | A revival of the original Tribune 1.0 newspaper: condensed Barlow headlines over PT Serif copy, charcoal rules, a cream-framed feature photo, a “Breaking News” flag, and a homepage built from full-width bands | ✅ |
Each one is a complete design — not just a colour palette. Typography, spacing, the header, the featured area and the widgets all change with the style.

Go to WPZOOM → Theme Options → General → Theme Settings and pick a Color Style. The selector shows a layout preview of each style, so you can see what you’re choosing:

Save, and the whole site switches. Your content, menus, widgets and settings stay exactly as they were — only the design changes, so you can try each style on your real site and switch back.
Existing sites keep Classic. Updating to 4.3 doesn’t change your style. New installs and the Demo Importer’s designs each set their own — see Getting Started.
Because Classic and Broadsheet build the homepage from widget areas while the Modern and Blocks demos use a static block page, switching style and switching homepage layout are separate decisions. See Setting Up the Homepage.
The Editorial, Modern and Broadsheet styles each include a dark colour scheme. Two settings in the same Theme Settings section control it:
Dark Mode Toggle — shows a sun/moon switch in the header. Visitors click it to change the scheme, and their choice is remembered on their next visit.

Default Color Scheme — what first-time visitors see, before they’ve touched the switch:
A visitor who uses the toggle keeps their own choice regardless of the default. Turn the toggle off if you want to lock the site to one scheme.
These two settings only appear when a style that supports Dark Mode is selected. On Classic they’re hidden, because Classic has no dark scheme.
Changes with the style: fonts, colours, spacing, the header and menu bar, the featured slider’s look, widget styling, the footer, and — for Broadsheet — the homepage’s band layout and its 1240×520 Featured Wide image for the lead story.
Stays the same: everything in the Customizer’s Site Identity, your menus, widgets and their content, Theme Options such as the Breaking News bar, banners and single-post settings, and every post and page.
If you’ve customised colours or fonts in Appearance → Customize, those settings apply on top of whichever style is active, so check them after switching — a colour chosen for the navy Classic header may not suit Modern’s cards.
