How to Create an Image Gallery with Video Snapshots

Written by Pavel Ciorici on in 0 comments

In the Reel theme demo, you can see in some portfolio posts that there is a gallery with captures taken from the video.

There is no automatic way to create such a gallery, but thanks to a free Google Chrome Extension, it’s very easy to do it.

1. Install the Video Screenshot Extension.

If you’re using Google Chrome browser, click on this link and install this extension in your browser.

2. Start taking video captures

Once you’ve installed the extension, a new icon will appear in players with Vimeo or YouTube videos.

Simply go to a page that includes such a video, play it, and start making a few captures with the needed frames.

These captures will be saved automatically on your Desktop in a folder named “Screenshots”.

3. Create the Image Gallery

Now you can edit your portfolio post and using the Gallery block, you can easily insert the images under your video:

In our video themes Reel and Inspiro you can set a short video to play automatically when hovering a specific Portfolio post in a gallery.

There are 2 ways to add background videos on hover:

  • By uploading a self-hosted video
  • By inserting a YouTube or Vimeo URL

Adding a self-hosted video in background on hover

You can upload a short video in each Portfolio post in the Video Background on Hover tab in Video Settings:

We recommend you to prepare a small video for each post, as you don’t need it to be larger than 600x400px. Make sure that the size of the file is also under 2-3 MB.

Adding a YouTube or Vimeo video in background on hover

Using the GIPHY API integration we’ve been able to add an easier way to add a video in background on hover. With this method, you don’t have to create manually short videos and upload them, but you can do it directly from your WordPress site.

Just insert the URL of any public YouTube or Vimeo videos, and you will be able to generate a short video preview of a maximum of 15 seconds.

This feature works only with videos shorter than 15 minutes

VIMEO VIDEO NOT WORKING?

If a Vimeo is not available for Download, then it’s not possible to generate a short preview for hover feature using GIPHY API. You need to make that specific Vimeo video available for Download. More info.

The Download button appears below the video, so you can easily know if a video will work or not to generate a hover preview.

If you have a PRO or Premium Vimeo account, you can easily control which videos are available for download:

You can easily control the duration and the start your video preview:

If you need a way to generate much quicker multiple videos, you can use the GIF Maker tool from GIPHY.

Reel – How to Change “Our Work” text

Written by Pavel Ciorici on in 0 comments

Text included in the theme like “Our Work” can be changed using the Say What? free plugin, which allows you to change text strings from our themes when you don’t want to translate entire theme in a different language.

If you want to change or translate entire theme, consider using the TranslatePress plugin.

How to change the text

1. Once you installed and activated the Say What? plugin, go to Tools -> Text changes page in your WordPress dashboard and click the Add New button at the top of the page.

2. You will be presented with four text fields: Original string, Text domain, Text context, and Replacement string.

  • Original string – This field is for the text you are attempting to change. In this case, we want to change the “Our Work” text string, so that is exactly what you would enter into the field. Note: This field is case-sensitive. That means you must enter the text exact as it is displayed. “Our Work” and “our work” are not the same text string.
  • Text domain – This field requires a unique identifier that each plugin or theme must have. For WPZOOM themes, the text domain is wpzoom. If you need assistance finding the text domain for another plugin or theme, please contact the developer.
  • Text context – This field isn’t required, so you can leave it blank.
  • Replacement string – This field is your playground. The text you place in the Original string field will be replaced by whatever you put in this field. In our case we want to replace “Our Work” with “Portfolio”.

3. Save your new Text change and check the results.

If the above instructions are too difficult or not working for you, we recommend you to use the TranslatePress plugin.
