Indigo — Setting Up the Homepage

This article refers to Indigo

Indigo’s homepage works out of the box with your latest posts — the slider on top, the Recent Posts section, and Featured Categories below. This article covers how it’s assembled and the layout options.

The Indigo homepage

Table of Contents

  1. How the homepage is structured
  2. Homepage layout options
  3. The Recent Posts section
  4. A Featured-Categories-only homepage
  5. Using a Magazine page template instead

How the homepage is structured

Keep Settings → Reading set to “Your homepage displays: Your latest posts” (the WordPress default). From top to bottom, the homepage shows:

  1. The Homepage Slideshow
  2. Widget areas below the slider (full-width + three columns — great for the WPZOOM: Image Box widget)
  3. The Recent Posts section (your latest posts)
  4. Featured Categories widget areas
  5. The Instagram Bar and footer

The number of posts in Recent Posts comes from Settings → Reading → Blog pages show at most.

Homepage layout options

Go to WPZOOM → Theme Options → General, section Layouts → Homepage:

Layout options in Theme Options
  • LayoutSidebar on the right (default) or Full Width.
  • Posts Layout — how Recent Posts are displayed: List (default), 2 Columns, 3 Columns, or Blog (large posts, one per row).

Under Homepage Posts on the same page you can fine-tune what each post shows — Excerpt/Full Content/None, excerpt length, featured image, category, author, date, comments count, and the Read More button:

Homepage Posts options

The Recent Posts section

The section can be adjusted in Theme Options → Homepage → Recent Posts:

Recent Posts options
  • Title for Recent Posts — the section heading (default: Recent Posts).
  • Exclude categories — keep specific categories off the homepage.
  • Hide Featured Posts in Recent Posts? — on by default, so slider posts don’t repeat below.

Prefer a fully curated magazine front page? Enable Hide Recent Posts on Homepage (in Theme Options → Homepage → Recent Posts) and build the entire homepage from Featured Category widgets instead.

Using a Magazine page template instead

Alternatively, you can build the front page as a static page with the Homepage: Magazine or Homepage: Magazine (Full-width) page template, then set it as your front page in Settings → Reading. See Page Templates.
