Foodica – Modern Layout Setup Guide

This article refers to Foodica (PRO)

Foodica 5.1 introduces Modern, a second block-based homepage built on top of the Minimal foundation. Where Minimal is stripped back and editorial, Modern is warmer and more visual — category thumbnails, collection cards with cover images, a “Featured Categories” band, an About section, and a dark rounded newsletter card. It’s fully block-based (no sliders, no widgets) and uses the new Responsive Columns feature to keep everything tidy on mobile.

Three ways to set it up

  1. Go to WPZOOM > Demo Importer.
  2. Choose the Modern demo.
  3. Click Import Demo Content.
  4. After import, you can edit the front page sections using the block editor.

This imports pages, posts, images, menu locations, and widget areas that match the demo.

If you already have posts and don’t want a full import:

  1. Create a new page called Homepage.
  2. In the block editor, click the [+] inserter, switch to the Patterns tab, and search for Homepage (Modern).
  3. Insert the pattern — all sections appear pre-configured (Categories, Featured Categories, Popular Recipes, Search, Collections, Trending, About, Recent, Newsletter).
  4. Replace the category/collection placeholder links and images with your own. The Query Loop blocks will pull your real posts automatically.
  5. Go to Settings > Reading and set this page as the front page.

C. Apply Modern Styling Only

If you want the Modern look-and-feel without the block homepage:

  1. Go to WPZOOM > Demo Importer.
  2. Select the Modern layout.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click on the Import Styles Only button

Migrating from the classic (widget-based) homepage

  1. Create a new Blog page (empty) to hold your posts archive.
  2. Create a new Homepage and insert the Homepage (Modern) pattern (see Option B above).
  3. Update Reading Settings — Homepage displays → A static page → set Homepage + Blog accordingly.
  4. Switch to Modern styling in Theme Options if you haven’t already.
  5. Optional cleanup — deactivate any classic-homepage widgets you no longer need under Appearance > Widgets.

Note: Your existing posts, categories, recipes, and media library are not affected. You can revert at any time by switching Reading Settings back to the old homepage.

Responsive Columns

The Modern homepage uses the built-in Responsive Columns controls on each Columns and Query Loop (Grid) block. Select any such block and open the sidebar panel of the same name to set the number of columns on mobile (portrait) and tablet (portrait) independently. Two columns on mobile is the default — no custom CSS needed.

FAQ

Can I switch back to the classic homepage?
Yes. Change Settings > Reading → Homepage displays back to your previous page or to “Your latest posts” at any time.

Will this affect my existing recipes and posts?
No. Modern only changes the homepage layout (and, if you choose, the global style preset). All post content is untouched.

Do I need a page builder?
No. Modern is 100% core blocks plus two small WPZOOM blocks (Recipe Card, Forms). Works in the built-in block editor.

Is the Modern layout compatible with the Minimal layout?
Yes — both are block patterns. You can mix sections from different pages.
