Foodica – Minimal Layout: Setup & Migration Guide

This article refers to Foodica (PRO)

What is the Minimal Layout?

Foodica PRO 5.0 introduces a new theme style called Minimal — a clean, editorial design built entirely with WordPress blocks. Unlike the classic Foodica layout which relies on a homepage slider and widget areas, the Minimal layout gives you full control over your front page using the block editor.

Key characteristics:

  • Warm neutral color palette (soft beige tones)
  • Elegant serif headings (Cormorant Garamond) paired with a clean sans-serif UI font (Manrope)
  • Rounded corners on images, cards, and buttons
  • No slider or widget dependencies — everything is blocks
  • Optimized CSS that loads only when the Minimal layout is active

How to Set Up the Minimal Layout

There are three ways to get started, depending on whether you’re starting fresh or already have content on your site.

This is the fastest way to get the complete Minimal experience.

  1. Go to WPZOOM > Demo Importer menu
  2. Select the Foodica Minimal demo
  3. Click Import — this will set up pages, menus, and Customizer settings

If you already have content and don’t want to run the full demo import:

  1. Go to Settings > Reading and select “A static page” — choose or create a page for your homepage
  2. Edit that page in the block editor
  3. Click the “+” inserter or open the Patterns panel (the grid icon in the top toolbar)
  4. Search for “Homepage” — you’ll find three homepage layout patterns:
    • Homepage (Minimal) — the default Minimal front page with hero, categories, collections, about section, recipes grid, and newsletter
    • Homepage — a standard block-based homepage layout
    • Magazine — a magazine-style layout
  5. Insert the pattern and customize the content (replace placeholder text, images, and links with your own)

Option C: Apply Minimal Styling Only

If you want the Minimal look without changing your page content:

  1. Go to WPZOOM > Demo Importer
  2. Select Foodica Minimal demo
  3. Click on the Import Styles Only button at the bottom

Migrating from the Classic Widget-Based Homepage

If your site currently uses the “Your latest posts” option in Settings > Reading (the classic Foodica homepage with a slider and widget areas), here’s how to migrate:

Step-by-step migration:

  1. Create a new Blog page
    • Go to Pages > Add New, title it “Blog” (or “All Recipes”), and publish it — leave the content empty
  2. Create a new Homepage
    • Go to Pages > Add New, title it “Home”
    • Insert the Homepage (Minimal) pattern from the Patterns panel
    • Customize the content: update the hero text, category links, about section, and social links
    • Publish the page
  3. Update Reading Settings
    • Go to Settings > Reading
    • Change from “Your latest posts” to “A static page”
    • Set Homepage to your new “Home” page
    • Set Posts page to your “Blog” page
    • Save changes
  4. Switch the layout
    • Go to WPZOOM > Demo Importer
    • Select the Foodica Minimal demo
    • Click on the Import Styles Only button at the bottom
  5. Clean up old widget areas (optional)
    • The classic homepage widgets (slider, image boxes, etc.) are no longer displayed with a static front page
    • You can remove them from Appearance > Widgets if you wish, but they won’t affect anything

Your existing posts, categories, and content are not affected by this change. The migration only changes how the front page is displayed.

Customizing the Minimal Homepage

Each section of the homepage is a standard WordPress block that you can edit, rearrange, or remove:

CategoriesRounded category images with descriptionsReplace images and links to point to your actual categories
CollectionsCard-style category grid with bordersUpdate images, titles, and descriptions for your recipe collections

Latest Recipes6-post grid (3 columns)Adjust the Query block settings to change the number of posts or filtering

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I switch back to the classic layout? Yes. You can easily reset all Customizer settings imported by the Minimal layout using this plugin. If you also want the classic homepage, go to Settings > Reading and switch back to “Your latest posts.”

Will switching to Minimal break my existing content? No. Your posts, pages, categories, and media are untouched. Only the front page display and visual styling change.

Can I mix classic widgets with the Minimal layout? The sidebar still works on blog/archive pages. However, the front page in Minimal mode uses block patterns instead of widget areas.

Do I need Elementor for the Minimal layout? No. The Minimal layout is built entirely with native WordPress blocks — no page builder required.
