Academica Pro — Setting Up the Blog Page

This article refers to Academica Pro 3.0

With the homepage set to a static page, your news/blog listing lives on its own page using the Blog Archives template.

The blog page

Create the blog page

  1. Go to Pages → Add New and create a page called e.g. Blog or News. Leave the content empty.
  2. In the page settings sidebar, set Template to Blog Archives.
  3. Publish the page and add it to your menu.

Don’t set this page as the “Posts page” in Settings → Reading — leave that setting empty. The Blog Archives template does the job by itself, and assigning a Posts page would override the template.

Customize the listing

The blog listing (and category/date archives) is controlled from WPZOOM → Theme Options → General, under Global Posts Options:

Global Posts Options
  • Post Archives Columns — display posts in One column (default) or Two.
  • Posts with Thumbnails — how many posts show a thumbnail on archive pages (default: 4; the rest are listed compactly).
  • Excerpt length — in words (default: 30). Posts with a manual Excerpt field always use it instead.
  • Show Date/time and Show Category — the meta under each post title.

The number of posts per page comes from Settings → Reading → Blog pages show at most.
