Academica Pro includes a set of page templates that change a page’s layout. Select one in the page settings sidebar, under Template:
Used for the static front page — see Setting Up the Homepage:

Independent of the template, every post and page has a Featured Image Location option (in the Post Options / Featured Image box) that controls where its Featured Image appears when viewing it individually:
