Most probably, today you might have noticed that your Instagram Widget has stopped working on your website and returns an error. Here’s an example:
Instagram Widget misconfigured, check plugin & widget settings.
If you’re not sure, you might want to check your website, just in case.
This issue is caused by the latest changes from the Instagram API and it affects the users of our WPZOOM Social Feed Widget.
The remaining Instagram Legacy API permission (“Basic Permission”) was disabled on June 29, 2020. As of June 29, third-party apps no longer have access to the Legacy API.

You’re likely to receive an error if you use the widget to display your Instagram feed with the old Access Token or Public Feed options. You can find the detailed and nerdy explanation on this page. If you’re simply interested in the fix, find it below.
How to Solve the “Instagram Widget Not Working” Issue?
Are you using the new 2.0 version? Read here how to replace the legacy widget with a new Instagram Feed.
Don’t worry, we’ve taken care of implementing this change to the WPZOOM Social Feed Widget and the fix is already available in your Dashboard. Here are the steps for making it work (again):
- Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins and update the WPZOOM Instagram Widget to the latest version.
- Go to Settings → Instagram Widget and select the new With Access Token (Instagram API) option for the request type.
- Then, click on the Connect with Instagram button. You will be redirected to an authorization page on Instagram where you should give permission to the widget to have access to your profile. After you click on Authorize, you will be redirected for a moment to wpzoom.com and then automatically back to the Settings Page on your website. The Access Token field should now contain the key.
- Hit the Save Changes button and it’s done!
Access tokens are valid for 60 days. If the widget stops working again, please generate a new Access Token.
That’s it! Now everything can go back to normal and the visitors of your website can admire your beautiful Instagram feed ????
If you have any questions or need some help, don’t hesitate to open a ticket on our support forum for the widget.

I can’t see the Bio anymore in the widget!
Due to some limitations of the updated Instagram API, your Instagram profile picture and bio will no longer appear automatically in the widget. However, you can add them manually on the Settings page of the plugin:

It sounds like you’re using an older version of the plugin and the old API method.
Please make sure that you have updated the plugin and then select the new method called “With Basic Instagram API Access Token” in the settings page.

The update works but it’s asking me to authorize my personal IG account. How do I get an access token for it to show my blog IG account, like it did previously. I’ve tried to use the public setting but according to this we shouldn’t be.

There is a button on the Settings page of the plugin where you can connect with your Instagram account.
Make sure that you are also logged in to the correct account first on the website: https://instagram.com/

The widget photos are not showing up for users that are not logged in. I can see the photos when I am logged in. https://halfwaythererv.com/handbook_sections/checklists/

Could you please check if it works with a different theme? I believe the theme you’re using is affecting our plugin.

Hi, I would like to connect a different instagram account to the Instagram widget, however, I don’t see a way to do this without going to the pro version which I don’t want to do at this stage. Thanks in advance!
